In writing about the Sappers and Miners in Western Australia I became aware that this was a larger subject than I had initially thought. There are wider topics to consider: the Corps history timeline; the Great Exhibition and how the sappers played their part; the ‘nearly’ Crimean War; the WA Convict Establishment. It also seemed useful to touch on some of the structures and processes of the British Army – medals, courts martial, pensions, records;  and other British Army regiments with detachments in Western Australia.

Here then is a list of items ‘Of Interest’, which seems to grow by the month:

British Regiments in WA

Convict Hiring Depots

Corps Timeline

Courts Martial

Crimean War Connection

Going to Pension

Great Exhibition 1851

Medals and Badges

War Office Records
